The aim of IMPRO project is to optimize the implementation of coronary CT into routine clinical practice following the decision by the Joint Federal Committee on January 18, 2024, while at the same time avoiding overtreatment. To this end, a new type of care model is being tested in 16 different regions across 12 federal states. This is intended to improve primary and cross-sector care for patients with suspected coronary heart disease. The primary goal of the Germany-wide study is to determine whether the new care model helps reduce cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes, in patients with suspected coronary heart disease. The researchers are also analyzing how this type of treatment is received by patients and whether it can lead to cost savings. The project is funded for 39 months with a total of approximately 9.3 million euros.
If successful, the new care model can be introduced nationwide to improve care for patients with suspected coronary heart disease and avoid unnecessary costs for the healthcare system.
