High temperature materials

Description / Outline

The High Temperature Materials group at the Institute of General Materials Properties carries out basic and application oriented research on various advanced metallic and intermetallic materials for high temperature applications. Our research focuses on the correlation between mechanical properties, such as hardness, fracture toughness, creep, fatigue and high temperature strength and microstructure and composition of advanced materials. Various mechanical test and microscopic methods at the institute as well as synchrotron and neutron radiation sources are used for the characterization of the materials. The aim is to develop and optimize particularly Nickel- and Cobalt-base superalloys, Titanium aluminides and protective coatings.

The High Temperature Materials group collaborates closely with partners from aviation and automotive industry and several projects participate in DFG funded programmes.
