Diamond coating of molds and tools
Description / Outline
A CVD diamond layer with TiNB-intermediate layer can permanently inhibit the reaction of the tool surface with liquid or solid Aluminium. The necessary strength of the steel must be adjusted after every heat treatment, which is steel specific, to avoid material failure due to insufficient fatigue strength. As an alternative or as an addition CVD diamond coating of Tungsten tools is in research, as the high temperature intermediate layer and special heat treatments can be avoided.
These activities are carried out in close cooperation with the group "Ultra-hard Coatings" of the chair.
