The increasing demand for
sheet metal parts poses technological, ecological and economic challenges for the metalforming
industry in context of shortened product cycles and increasingly complex part geometries. Main objective of the sheet metal forming group is the research and
further development of innovative forming processes for steel and
aluminum-based components. The experimental and numerical identification of tool- and workpiece-side stresses represents a focal point of the scientific work.Furthermore, methods
for extending the existing process windows are analyzed. Main research activities of the sheet metal forming group are also the development of suitable process control strategies for the dry, cold and hot forming of steel and aluminum-based sheets.
