This short report focuses on the field diary - the unrecorded interviews, and the conversations that took place before and after them - of the qualitative research in the context of the research project 'Islamic Religious Education'. The aim of this reflection is therefore to understand the reactions of the interviewees during the interview period, which took place between 20 September 2023 and 15 December 2023, so before and after the 7 October attack. How has the current political situation affected the interviewees and what feelings has it triggered in their consciousness as citizens in terms of their sense of belonging? The analysis demonstrates that there is a prevailing sentiment of disappointment, stemming from the perception that Muslims are not regarded as equal citizens with their social and political needs within the German societal framework.
