Abstract

Despite the fact that the musculoskeletal system plays a vital role in the body, disorders of this system are pervasive and affect a wide range of populations worldwide. Several methods are available for treating these injuries, and tissue engineering is emphasized as one of the most promising. In this chapter, bioprinting technology is focused on as a novel and precise method for fabricating tissue engineering scaffolds to regenerate musculoskeletal system defects. Next, the structural characteristics and functional aspects of scaffolds for musculoskeletal system regeneration, including bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon, and ligament, are discussed, taking into account preclinical and clinical achievements. A future vision for bioinks formulation and their development for treating musculoskeletal system injuries is then presented. This chapter highlights the common elements essential to translational research in this field so that future research can be expanded.
