Abstract

In this article a leaky wave antenna for 75 to 110 GHz is presented. Both, the dielectric transmission line as the basis and the conductive radiating elements on top of it were produced with an additive manufacturing process. The dielectric was generated by extruding a very low-loss thermoplastic material, whereas the antenna elements were made of a nano-particle silver ink using a piezo-driven inkjet print head. The final antenna consists of a 30 mm dielectric strip with 6 dipoles resulting in a measured gain of 12.8dBi, a measured side-lobe level of 12.2dB and a half power beam width of 9.1° at 90 GHz. It is to form the basis for a later steerable array antenna in the image line circuitry for the THz-region.
