Zusammenfassung: Ausgehend von Jürgen Habermas‘
Konzept der kommunikativen Kompetenz werden in
diesem Beitrag Rollendistanz und prinzipiengeleitetes
Handeln als Lebenskompetenzen der Generation Y
beschrieben. Mit ihrem Anspruch an eine sinnerfüllte
Berufstätigkeit, Lebensgenuss und eine perfekten Work-
Life-Balance hinterfragen die Millennials eingespielte
hierarchische Strukturen und Regime. Dadurch konfrontieren
sie das Gesundheitswesen mit einem neuen Arztund
Patientenverständnis.

Abstract: Drawing on Jürgen Habermas’ concept of communicative
competence this paper describes the capacity
of role distance and autonomous agency as life competences
of the Generation Y. Their quest for professional
fulfillment, a private life of enjoyment and a perfect worklife-
balance leads to their demand for a change of social
roles and hierarchic structures. Thus the Millennials confront
the labour market and the health system with a new
type of (medical) employees and patients.
