Abstract
As the number of patients from diverse cultures increases in psychotherapeutic care, cross-cultural competencies of therapists become increasingly important. Currently, evaluated training programs to improve those competencies are lacking. In particular, web-based training programs, which allow therapists to work time-flexible and at their own pace on a training, are missing completely so far. Based on the conception of cross-cultural competencies according to Sue et al. (1992) a web-based training program to improve therapists' cross-cultural competencies was developed. It consists of six modules with texts and practical exercises. Skills and knowledge concerning the work with culturally diverse patients shall be trained as well as participants' awareness regarding the importance of their cultural concepts for the therapeutic work. Beside the program the study design of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate its effectiveness is introduced. The training group will be compared with two other groups, i. e. an education only and a waitlist control group. Groups will be compared regarding cross-cultural competencies (e. g. Questionnaire on the Transcultural Competencies of Psychotherapists) and associated variables (e. g. percentage of culturally diverse patients in treatment). Data will be collected before and after the training as well as two and six month after training completion.
