Standardised analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of CNS. In this recommendation we provide proposals for analysis of CSF ranging from preanalysis to basic diagnostic and to specific and symptomatically oriented microbiological analysis. © 2005 by Walter de Gruyter.
