Alcohol-related disorders are one of the most common mentaldisorders and are associated with great individual suffering andhigh costs for society. Inpatient therapy is an essential and wellevaluatedform of treatment for alcohol-related disorders. However,to the detriment of patients, there is a shortage in Germanywith regard to the continuation of therapy successes achieved ininpatient settings. Hybrid e-health interventions have the potentialto achieve significant therapeutic effects as a supplementarycomponent in an aftercare setting. Such human-supported interventionscan be used anywhere and anytime, can be reproducedinexpensively and, thanks to their high degree of anonymity, appealto patients beyond the conventional addiction support system.mentalis Appstinence is a hybrid aftercare intervention foralcohol-related disorders in the post-inpatient setting. A feasibilitystudy has already demonstrated that a high level of adherenceand a reduction in dysfunctional attitudes, craving for addictionand risk consumption can be achieved by the intervention. Furthermore, initial data from care practice indicate that Appstinenceincreases the transfer rate to follow-up treatment and reduces therehospitalization rate. In addition, the intervention is currentlybeing evaluated in a randomized controlled study. Consequently, the integration of such hybrid e-health interventions can representan important element for improving the post-inpatient addictionsupport system.
