Abstract

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare inflammatory skin disorder presenting with ulcerations. Peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum confronts the treating physician with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Pyoderma gangrenosum is often not recognized early enough but an interdisciplinary treatment approach should be initiated as soon as possible as wound care alone will not lead to healing of these skin alterations. Wound care in combination with stoma care is often difficult in these cases and with unreliable obturation of stoma and infiltration of the skin protection materials it is associated with impairments in the quality of life of the person affected. The aim of wound care is to protect the wound from stoma leakage and to ensure sufficient stoma care by changing the materials for stoma care at regular intervals.
