Abstract

The introductory chapter starts with giving the reader a compact but solid background on early main group organometallics (history, syntheses, bonding and structure, and solution dynamics) that form the foundation for the second part that deals with the fundamental steps in s-block metal catalysis. This short summary of working principles in catalysis is followed by a discussion on the mechanism of substrate activation by early main group metals. This chapter concludes with a contemplation of future directions in the field.
