Abstract

This paper gives an overview of physics-based modeling of semiconductor optoelectronic devices, which are key components in fields such as photovoltaics, solid-state lighting, communications and sensing. Despite this broad application range, some common underlying theory can be identified: accurate modeling of light-matter interaction, semi-coherent carrier transport in nanostructures, accurate calculation of electromagnetic characteristics. In this contribution, a selection of models and devices are discussed and their applicability for analysis purposes is demonstrated © 2010 IEEE.
