Entries in university records of various denominations in southern Germany and Cracow confirm the close relationship between educational and religious fields. While Dillingen, Ingolstadt and Würzburg were profiled as universities support-ing the Counter-Reformation and the consolidation of Catholicism, Altdorf and Erlangen served the Protestant regions. Particularly in regions inhabited by dis-senters, the choice of a place to study was clearly related to religion. Biographical and family relationships also played a role in choosing a place to study. Repeated accounts referring to the same place of origin in subsequent semesters also indi-cate local university traditions.
