Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant diseases. In recent years, the clinical outcome of patients with metastatic CRC has greatly improved. This is due to a higher proportion of resections through improved surgical techniques, improved chemotherapeutic agents, the increased use of ablative techniques, and especially more intensive management of the cancer itself. This is reflected in the increasing number of patients treated in a multidisciplinary team environment and in specialized cancer centers. Further improvements can be found in imaging techniques, but also in prognostic and predictive molecular markers. Treatment decisions for patients with metastatic CRC should be based on evidence. For this purpose, the entire “toolbox” of local therapeutic procedures must be known and available and must be discussed again and again in an interdisciplinary setting.
