DC microgrids for
stationary and mobile applications gain growing attention in the field of
scientific and industrial research. Despite undisputed advantages in terms of
efficiency and operating cost, new technical challenges arise, out of which system
stability under all operating conditions is of crucial importance for uninterruptible
service. The research work at hand explores possible stability issues in a
typical droop-controlled DC microgrid utilizing an intermediate bus
architecture that are linked to the control loop setup of its power source
converters and the amount and distribution of energy storage elements within
the distribution system. Based on considerations for possible control loop
implementations, recommendations for stable, reconfigurable, and highly reliable
DC power systems are outlined.
