We studied the influence of the different synthesis parameters (acid concn., molar ratio of the reagents, temp., etc.) on the pore size and the pore structure of SBA-15-type silicas. Our data reveal clearly that different synthesis conditions (acid concn., molar ratio of the reagents, temp., etc.) permit the prepn. of SBA-15 silica with selectively tuned textural properties. A detailed anal. of the nitrogen adsorption isotherms (and in particular the adsorption hysteresis) clearly shows a correlation between the pore structure and the specific synthesis conditions of various SBA-15 samples. This study confirms that the pore structure of SBA-15 silica may range from pseudo-one dimensional pore systems to highly interconnected 3D networks, depending on details of the synthesis conditions.
