Abstract

Over the past few years, the acceptance of digital learning scenarios in university teaching has been continuously increasing. E-learning components have become an integral part of most study courses and are becoming more and more popular - especially with students of computer science, mathematics and natural sciences. The humanities, however, have adopted e-learning courses somewhat more reluctantly, especially with regard to primary school teacher training in Germany. This may be partly due to the somewhat limited availability of digital learning scenarios in the corresponding disciplines:

“Digital media does not seem to be an integral part of teaching at a number of universities. There is currently rather a selective concentration of teaching through digital media nationwide” (Persike & Friedrich, 2015, p. 7).

This is particularly true for the teaching of primary pedagogy and didactics at German universities which is why the Institute of Primary Education Research at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg has developed a number of e-learning and blended learning courses over the last years.

This article gives an overview of the various courses available and presents the course “Primary Education across Europe”.

In conclusion, the article lists a variety of research questions intended for further investigation.
