Combined Heat and Power production is a pre-condition for economic and energetic efficient use of biomass by means of fermentation or thermal gasification. The lack of heat consumers in the surrounding of the biogas or gasification plants often limits the total efficiency. To overcome this limitation new innovative approaches for the use of waste heat are needed. This paper presents and discusses three different concepts. If no heat consumers are available waste heat recovery with an Organic Rankine Cycle allows enhanced power production from the excess heat of the IC engine. Transportable heat storages help to bridge the gap to heat consumers if a construction of a pipeline is not possible. A further possibility is the transportation of the biogenous gas to the customer and the CHP on site. This paper gives first a short overview about state-of-the-art CHP with biogenous gases. The study enters then in a detailed description of the three proposed applications. The economic as well as the energetic efficiencies of the systems are presented and discussed.
