The current industrial trends related to crystallization are characterized by strong needs for cost reduction for production of commodities followed by globalization and a general shift towards high added-value products. New products with higher added-value are developed which are characterized not only by their state of crystallinity but also by their size, structure, surface properties in order to allow integration of these products in highly integrated products. The need for very specific properties of crystalline particles is a main driving force of nanotechnology. Predictive models including mixing, reaction, and nucleation will help to understand crystallization and to better take control on the underlying mechanisms.
