The six-port Direction Of Arrival (DOA) detector has opened a whole new set of possibilities and implementations for novel industrial sensors and radar applications. Detection ambiguity issues as well as challenging calibration techniques are still the main problems of this technology. In this paper the design of an innovative DOA detector system is presented, addressing especially solutions to the problems mentioned above. The proposed device works at 77 GHz and features an integrated Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) dual six-port receiver. Design issues are addressed as well as an overview of the DOA detector system. The highlights are high accuracy, wide range of DOA detection with no ambiguity issues, flexibility, low-complexity and low-cost.
