Abstract

A post-synchronization method for a localization system is presented here. The synchronization of independent secondary radar units of an active localization system is essential. There are different synchronization techniques. One of these is FSK-pre-synchronization, which is analysed in this paper. The precision of the pre-synchronization is not accurate enough for round trip phase measurement. The undesirable side-effects which distort the synchronization between the active radar units have been analysed and a compensation method developed. The radar units operate in the 5.8 GHz ISM band. To verify how accurately the novel post-synchronization method works a round trip phase measurement has been implemented. With the novel post-synchronization a ranging accuracy of 0.1824 cm is possible.
