Abstract

In this paper we describe an SC/FDE (Single Carrier transmission with Frequency Domain Equalization) prototype system operating in the 2.4 GHz band. The system is based on an off-the-shelf 802.11b WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) front-end module, on specially designed mixed signal boards for analog-to-digital (AD) and digital-to-analog (DA) conversion, and on a flexible DSP/FPGA solution for synchronization and baseband algorithm implementation. The prototype setup allows to transmit data over real RF (Radio Frequency) channels and to test the synchronization concepts as well as the equalizer algorithms under real conditions. We give a brief introduction to the SC/FDE theory, describe our prototype setup in detail, and finally present measurement results for different test scenarios.
