The coherence of social relationships and affect in adolescence was carried out over a period of 8 weeks in form of a daily questionnaire of 162 male and female teenagers in the age of 12 to 16. It was started with the assumption that the parents of the youth give them long lasting social support and that they therefore have a special position for the trait affect of the adolescents. Additionally it was expected that the parents provide more essential support to their children in situations of stress in school. In contrast it was attributed to the friends that they have a special function in the daily life of the adolescents: It was assumed that they are of greater importance for the state affect of the youth than the parents. The data suggest that the trait affect of the youth is influenced as much by the parents as the same aged. Stress in school is reduced only through the social support of both related groups. Gender specific analysis show that for girls the peers are of greater importance for the state affect while for boys the parents are more important. Furthermore the study shows the advantages of a research which is close to daily-life, process-oriented and individuum-centered, compared to the conventional cross-sectional analysis.
