Abstract

Coralline sponges (Sphinctozoa and Inozoa) are, beside of scleractinean corals, the most abundant reef builders in Dachstein reefs, which are widespread in the Northern Calcareous Alps. The Gosaukamm (Dachstein area, Upper Austria) is one of such Dachstein reefs. The sponge fauna of the Gosaukamm is described in this paper. Among the coralline sponges 30 sphinctozoan and 15 inozoan taxa were found at the Gosaukamm locality. Because of strong recrystallization of the sponge skeletons not all sponges could be determined at species level. Among the sphinctozoans 13 were classified at species level, 5 of them as new. 13 taxa were identified at genus level and the rest as gen. et sp. indet. Among the inozoans 13 taxa were identified at species level, 6 of them are new. Two taxa were classified at genus level. So far 45 Sphinctozoa and Inozoa species occur in the Dachstein reef of the Gosaukamm. Following taxa were identified at genus or species level: Sphinctozoa: Amblysiphonella sp. 1, Amblysiphonella? sp. 2, Annaecoelia mirabilis SENOWBARI-DARYAN & SCHÄFER, Annaecoelia sp., Cheilosporites tirolensis WÄHNER, Cryptocoelia wurmi SENOWBARI-DARYAN & DULLO, Kashanella irregularis SENOWBARI-DARYAN, Nevadathalamia sp. 1, Nevadathalamia sp. 2, Panormida bisiphonata nov. sp., Panormida multisiphonata nov. sp., Panormida unisiphonata nov. sp., Panormida sp., Paradeningeria gosaukammensis nov. sp., Parauvanella sp., Radiomura amphoriformis nov. sp., Radiomura cautica SENOWBARI-DARYAN & SCHÄFER, Solenolmia sp., Welteria sp. and Uvanella norica (SENOWBARI-DARYAN & SCHÄFER). Inozoa: Anguispongia alpina nov. sp., Disjectopora alpina nov. sp., Disjectopora globosa nov. sp., Grossotubenella variabilis SENOWBARI-DARYAN, Molengraaffia regularis VINASSA DE REGNY, Permocorynella maxima SENOWBARI-DARYAN, SEYED-EMAMI & AGHANABATI, Permocorynella minima nov. sp., Peronidella austriaca FLÜGEL, Peronidella fluegeli nov. sp., Peronidella cf. iranica SENOWBARI-DARYAN, Peronidella minima nov. sp., Peronidella norica (SENOWBARI-DARYAN, SEYED-EMAMI & AGHANABATI) and Sestrostomella robusta ZITTEL. The most abundant sphinctozoan genus at Gosaukamm is Salzburgia followed by the genera Panormida and Paradeningeria. Peronidella is the most abundant inozoan genus. Disjectopora occurs at Gosaukamm with at least two species. Disjectopora, which was placed to the hydrozoans by previous authors, is classified as an inozoan sponge.
