The "problematic microfossil" Probolocuspis espahkensis, described as "incertae sedis" by Brönnimann, Zaninetti, Moshtaghian and Huber (1974) from the Carnian Espahk Formation near the small village of Espahk (Tabas area, NE Iran) represents a dasycladacean alga attributed preliminary to the Family Acetabulariaceae, Tribe Clypeineae. The holotype of Probolocuspis espahkensis, designated by Brönnimann et al. (1974), is only a part of the alga.
