Abstract

Model Fe-20Cr (wt.%) alloy, exposed to Ar-20CO(2) at 650 degrees C, formed a protective Cr2O3 scale, but nonetheless carburized. Atom probe analysis shows that carbon penetrates the scale via oxide grain boundaries. (C) 2014 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
