Abstract

Quality of Service (QoS) is a prevalent issue in communication systems, but an often neglected aspect of local positioning. In this paper, we present a QoS architecture for the high-accuracy local positioning system RESOLUTION. Different backend configurations of this system are compared in terms of impact on accuracy and latency of the system. Quality metrics relevant to local positioning requirements are defined and tested with several protocol and algorithmic options by means of simulations. Results indicate parameter tradeoffs which call for optimization of the backend architecture for specific deployment scenarios. These insights are easy to transfer to any positioning system which has to deal with channel contention situations.
