Abstract

The Highly Integrated Galileo/GPS Chipset (HIGAPS) project has as its primary goal the development of a large- scale integrated Galileo/Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver chipset for consumer applications, with focus on pedestrian and automotive navigation and tracking. This article describes the first steps of the project, looking at the overall concept and initial architecture of HIGAPS. It discusses the HIGAPS receiver concept, radio frequency front-end, acquisition and processing, indoor signal acquisition, and results of the software receiver performance.
