A new hadromerid demosponge Acanthochaetetes? krumbachensis n. sp. is described from Upper Cretaceous (Coniacian) limestones exposed at Krumbachalm near Brandenberg (Northern Calcareous Alps, Austria). Acanthochatetes? krumbachensis n. sp. differs from all mentioned species of the genus - in addition of the small size of the sponge - by the non tube-like "chambers". Because no spicules were found, the assignment of the species to Acanthochaetetes is doubtful. This is the first report of the genus Acanthochaetetes Fischer 1970 from the Northern Calcareous Alps.
